The last glimpse of the Caribbean Sea for a while. See you again after the circumnavigation, muchachos!
It seems as if there was no end to possible destinations and routes right now. We are trying to keep calm and make plans on where to go next, but so far everything seems like a good idea. We are overwhelmed, You could say.

Hallo Pazifik – s/v Zingaro is transiting the Panama Canal on February 24, 2018
About attacking monkeys & a tacking sailboat – another LVB Episode in Puerto Lindo (Panama). It feels as if we had spent years here! The place is pretty, but it really is a blackhole that sucks in cruisers’ dreams for breakfast. We met so many people that got stranded here and so many boats found there final destination with Puerto Lindo.
Back to the topic: This episode is about sailing. Surprise, surprise! Join us while we sail off anchor with our catamaran! Continue reading →
May I introduce you to Lucie…? She is our new crew member and another Berliner! That means the Germans rule the boat right now. You can imagine what that means: Bier for breakfast and Kartoffeln for dinner.
We got measured for the canal and are now checking out the region around Colón, while we are waiting for transiting the Panama Canal.
Getting measured for the Canal on Saturday, February 10th!
We’re busy filling out forms, and borrowing other people’s cell phones to make the arrangements for the canal without an agent (livin la vida broka isn’t a joke). Looks like it’ll cost us right around $2045. The agent quoted me $2900 …
I’ll be putting out a Livin la Vida Broka (LVB) video on the cheapest way to get through the canal. 😉
We have new crew arrive last night! Please welcome Lucie Leichsering, another Berliner (I’m outnumbered…). Lucie will be staying with us indefinitely, and definitely transiting the Panama Canal with us next week!
Guess what she brought?? Some of the world famous bread made fresh in the oven of Ute (Kim’s Mom)!!! It’s the best bread we’ve ever had. I wish I had some local bread to show you the difference, but I don’t like wasting food and we won’t eat it. 😉
Kimmi and I just got back to civilization from the San Blas Islands. Wow, they’re pretty. Got drone shots under sail. Followed Kim with the dink while she was kiteboarding, underwater stuff. Super fun couple weeks. Good to get away, that’s what this is all about …
Coming soon: Next episode of Livin la Vida Broka and Sailing Zingaro – Episode 12
Livin la Vida Broka is our new format, all about living on the cheap and the necessary skillset to cruise on a sailboat. In the first LVB video, we show you how to save a couple bucks with making bridles out of your own lines.
The public transportation in Panama is old schoolbuses, back from primary school days. They don’t change the seats (which, btw, are built to fit CHILDREN) But the do change the speakers … And blast reggaeton while they drive them like Richard Petty.
Also helped another captain replace his head gasket on a Volvo Penta MD2030. Something every boat owner should know how to do. It’s really not as hard as you’d think.
Months of joy and moments of horror… Grounding the boat, losing both rudders, ripping the sails… It certainly was not an easy trip so far. But the rewards I got were incredible: freediving the kittiwake in the Cayman Islands, seeing the sun set over the mountains in Jamaica, cruising the Colombian coast and, of course, the San Blas Islands, Panama!
