New crew & same old sails | Sailing Zingaro Ep28

馃檪 Finally! We’re back on track with the episodes 馃檪

Another Berliner joins the boat: Lucie (Kim’s friend from Berlin)! She will be on the boat for a few weeks, helping us through the Panama Canal, and generally being awesome. In this episode we provision the boat, and sail from Puerto Lindo to Col贸n to get measured for the Canal.

Unfortunately we lost about 4 months of work with a drive failure – but guess who had some of the footage: LUCIE!!! She saved us! She rocks! We love you Lucie! 鉂

You can imagine how difficult it was to download over dropbox all the footage she had…

Much love!

-James & Kimmi (& Lucie 馃檪 )

Livin la Vida Broka (3): Sail. Your. Sailboat!

About attacking monkeys & a tacking sailboat – another LVB Episode in Puerto Lindo (Panama). It feels as if we had spent years here! The place is pretty, but it really is a blackhole that sucks in cruisers’ dreams for breakfast. We met so many people that got stranded here and so many boats found there final destination with Puerto Lindo.

Back to the topic: This episode is about sailing. Surprise, surprise!聽Join us while we sail off anchor with our catamaran!聽 Continue reading

Swimming in the canal and paying the fee

Well… I can check “swimming in the Panama Canal” off the list. Didn’t even know it was on there. Don’t recommend it. Here’s the story:

Our challenge: transiting the canal without an agent

So we’re trying to do this on a budget. The least possible amount you can pay is $1875, with $891 coming back after 3 weeks if you don’t hit anything, or cause a big delay.

New Crew, Beer and Potatoes

May I introduce you to Lucie…? She is our new crew member and another Berliner! That means the Germans rule the boat right now. You can imagine what that means: Bier for breakfast and Kartoffeln for dinner.

Lucie - new crew from Berlin

We got measured for the canal and are now checking out the region around Col贸n, while we are waiting for transiting the Panama Canal.

Looking forward to the Pacific 馃檪

Where do school buses go when they die?

The public transportation in Panama is old schoolbuses, back from primary school days. They don’t change the seats (which, btw, are built to fit CHILDREN) But the do change the speakers … And blast reggaeton while they drive them like Richard Petty.

Also helped another captain replace his head gasket on a Volvo Penta MD2030. Something every boat owner should know how to do. It’s really not as hard as you’d think.
